I was thinking of using a spy-like theme song such as 007 for our opening, however, I find that the 007theme song is too fast for our opening and we need something that sounds a bit dark and slower.

EDITING: Ideas
Since our thriller opening is a spy thriller, we used everyday objects such as phone, pen and books to emphasis the tension. Not only does this look effective but gives the audience a thrilling experience.
We planned our opening to be very stylised to create more drama by using short cuts. We used ideas from the Se7en opening.
The cuts to different objects gave the audience an establishing view of the plot of the film.
EDITING: Rough cut Review
Tony gave us his veiw on our rough edit. Overall, he really liked the footage but he mentioned that the opening is quite long and that we needed to cut down some scenes.
I also felt that the opening was dragging on and felt that we need some cuts and transitions to create an interesting opening.
We listened to Tony's comments and decided to spend our lunchtime and 3-hour break to fix the opening. Another problem was that some footage was out of focus and this made the overall work a simple quality.
EDITING: Vlog 1 on Day 3
On the 3rd day of editing, we were editing our rough edit of the film opening. However, we noticed that we had to shoot some extra shots. At this time, Korima was editing while me and Amal was planing the extra shots.

EDITING- fixing up
Editing-Fixing up
After an hour Korima had to go back to lesson, so me and Tahmina had carry on editing because we were running out of time and our video needs a lot of editing. The opening was too long so during that time we were mainly cutting out some shots that didn't look very good.
EDITING- New footage
Editing- New Footage
Me and Tahmina finished our filming and came back to the editing room to help Korima out. We had lots of footage so we had to try and fit them in to the opening.
EDITING-VLOG 2
This was when Tahmina went to lesson so me and Korima carried on editing during our lunch break.
EDITING- filming outside
Filming -Building
The beginning of our opening didn't look good so we thought it would be a great idea if we filmed an office building, so me an Tahmina went outside near Angel station and began filming. When we came back we showed our footage to our teacher and he said the office building we choses looked too dirty and it wouldn't look nice if we put it at the beginning so he suggested we should film another office building, so on Monday me and Tahmina are going to quickly film a nicer office building.

EDITING- filming last shots
Filming Clock
While we were filming in the office we found it was difficult to film the clock because it was too high we tried filming it with our hand but it didn't work out so we asked our teacher for some help and he suggested we adjust the tripod to make it taller. We tried it and it turned out to look great so we left it running for 2 minutes so we can speed it up whilst editing. We also found it would be more effective if we used a spotlight.
EDITING- filming last shots
While we were editing our opening we realised some shots are missing, luckily it was only the office scene so we waited 20minutes because another group was in the office. When they came out me and Tahmina went in to film while korima stayed in the editing room so that she can edit the opening. We added a few more clips to make the opening more engaging.
EDITING- putting clips together
Editing
The first thing we did today was try and put the clips together and add a few effect. Me and Tahmina were waiting 20minutes till we could use Tony's office so we can take our final shots, so I decided to write down what shots we needed the most so that we won't forget.
Missing shots I wrote down

EDITING: Extra editing
At the moment me and Amal are using our own time to edit our opening. Korima is in lesson so we decided to continue with it. What I learnt from this editing session is to use our footage is a quick and effective way as this will not only make the opening more mysterious but very interesting.
EDITING: Taking extra shots
We used our editing time to take extra shots to make the opening really interesting. Korima was editing while me and Amal was filming the extra shots. We decided to take extra shots as it gives more narrative to the opening.
EDITING: Reviewing our footage
We are using this time to review our rough edit and trying to use different techniques to make it more interesting.
EDITING: Day 2 of editing
On day 2 we are mainly focused on editing however we are also going to have to take some new additional shots to create more effect. I suggested using lots of cuts during the opening to create more tension.

Research & Practice- Soundtrack pro
Soundtrack Pro
Soundtrack pro is designed to be used with final cut pro. It is a music composing and audio editing application made by Apple inc. It has just over 5000 royalty free professional instrument loops and sound effects. The sound is organised in to different groups considering the sound for example people, which would show sounds of clapping for example.
After we edit our film this application would be very useful because it has spooky/scary sounds that we could use to make our film opening more effective. There is also sounds of objects, for example in our project we would need sound of a clock ticking which we could get from sound track pro. We also might need sound of foot steps.
Sound track pro is not the only place where we could get sound from, we could also record sound ourselves. This is called foley sound, in our earlier project we used foley sounds for footsteps. This method could be considered to be better in some occasions for example footsteps could be timed accurately if you film it yourself.
Research & Practice- Re-editing
Re-editing a film opening
Before we started our preliminary film we had to re- edit a film opening. There was a bunch of clip that were not in order as a group we had to figure out what goes where from beginning to end. Firstly we put the screen gems and production company ident and then put each clip together to make a storyline that makes sense.
When we finished putting the clips together we had to add sound, some of the sound we got from soundtrack pro however we had to create our own sound. This is called foley sound, we took the camera out and tried to catch different types of sound that we needed. For example the sound of traffic, cars beeping and footsteps.
PLANNING-Target Audience
Target Audience
The target audience for our spy/thriller film is boys aged 16 and over. This is because boy at that age group live spy thriller films because it usually has a lot of actions and high gadgets which is what they are interested in. This particular target audience would appreciate this genre more, the content of the film wouldn't be inappropriate for this age group however because it has some violence scenes the ages bellow 16 are not allowed to watch it .

Practice- Foley Sounds
Foley Sounds
Foley effects are sound effects added to the film before post production. For example they includes sounds such as foot steps, doors opening/closing, punching someone, breaking something. The reason why people use foley sounds is for many reasons for example they could be trying to emphasis on something. The boom operators job is to record the sound and only the sound.
Foley sound is done by foley artist, they do this by standing on the stage that has many equipments to use and different surfaces. There is also a screen near by where the foley artists can clearly see which displays the footage and the perform their sound effects while watching this screen so that the timing is accurate.
Research- Title sequence timeline
In the film 'The Roommate' the title sequence goes as follows. Conventional order
Screen Gems
A vertigo entertainment production
cast names
casting
costume design
music supervision
music by
editor
production designer
director of photography
executive producer
produced by
written by
directed by
In the film 'sleeping with the enemy' the title sequence goes as follows. Unconventional order
Production company
Company Ident
Producer
Director
Cast
Movie Name
Cast
Music
Casting
Costume designer
Editor
Production designer
Executive Producer
Written by
Screen play by
Produced by
Directed by
There is a strict order in which names and jobs appear because for example is there is a popular actor like Will Smith they would be put at the beginning of the title sequence and less important cast would be put together. It is sometimes people with the highest input to the film that get more recognition in the film.
