RESEARCH: Conventions of a film opening

The main conventions in a film opening include:

1. Music: the music is used to set the mood of the film and also helps create a certain atmosphere.
For example in the film 'Enemy of the State' the music sounds very high-tech and also establishes that     the film is action-packed.
The sound of police sirens indicates to the audience that the film is based around crime.

2. Titles: the title gives the audience more awareness as to who made and was in the film.
This includes: Production company ident,
                       Name of director
                       Name of actors and actresses
And also the name of the film.

All of these examples are shown in the opening of 'Se7en'

3. Establishing the genre of the film helps create the mood and it also sets up the rest of the theme of the film. this makes the opening more interesting as it hooks the audience and makes them want to watch the rest of the film.

Sometimes, the opening of some Thriller films also helps establish character and location.
