Research- Film Openings

There are three main types of title sequences at the opening of a film. Theres Narrative title sequence, discrete title sequence and titles that appear over a black screen.

  • Narrative title sequence opens with titles running throughout the first part of the film, with titles either super imposed or intercut. This is used in the movie Panic room.

  • A discrete title sequence shows shots/images/scenes that stand apart from the film with titles. For example the movie called 'seven' uses this type of opening scene.

  • Titles that appear over a black screen followed by a narrative opening. For example this is used in Donnie Darko
