RESEARCH - Genre & Sub-genre

A genre is a category in which a certain type of movie is placed within. For example, comedy, romance, horror, action, thriller etc.

A sub-genre is a sub category. or in other words a genre with in another genre. This may occur because of a cross over between two or more genres for this move. For example there are action thriller movies, psychological thriller movies etc.

Here is an example of a psychological thriller movie:

For Dream House, the poster presents the genre of the movie as well as the audience. By looking at the dull colours and the facial expressions of those within the poster, you can tell that the genre is thriller. Also, the two little girls connote a sense of eeriness as they are alone and you can't see their faces. The fact that there are two girls at the center of the film tells us that there may be a deeper story to it about the girls which makes us think the film has a psychological aspect as well.

Also, we can tell that the target audience would be older teens or adults as the film would have a few plots and twists that a younger audience may not be able to understand.
